Neat little ground cover bottlebrush with dark deep red flowers, which open in a distinctive conical fashion from bottom to top. Perfect for exposed steep slopes, rockeries, and pots; citrinus callistemons also grow in swamps and riverbanks in the wild so it should perform ok in wetter soils too. Hardy and low maintenance.

Callistemon citrinus 'Firebrand'

DESCRIPTION: Evergreen native ground cover with red brush flowers through the warmer months of the year. Flowers are a dark red, and appear deeper in colour from the black pollen tips at each stamen. Habit depends on climate and location - usually around 0.5m tall, some may grow to 1m tall.
USE IN: Ideal planted on steep embankments for erosion control, planted through rockeries and pots. Attracts bees, birds and nectar feeding insects to your garden.
LOCATION: Full sun to part shade. Suits most soil types. Tolerates moderate drought and frost once established.
CARE: Mulch and water well during the first 12 weeks or until the plant is established. Apply a native slow release fertiliser during spring for maximum flowering and new growth. Prune after flowering to promote a tidy growth habit.
