Native ornamental grass for margins of waterways and ponds. Ideal grass for revegetation, and soil stabilisation of banks, and provides a natural habitat for native birds and frogs. Plant alongside Ficinia, the native knobbly club rush, which loves similar conditions.

Juncus usitatus - common rush

APPEARANCE : Arching native rush, rugged and suited to all soil types. The seedheads look a little like clumps of sawdust or granola, unlike those of Ficinia (knobbly club rush)which has larger rounded spiky seedheads.
USE FOR : Ideal around water courses, rockeries and suited also to containers in formal outdoor areas.
CLIMATE : Tolerates frost, drought once established.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun to part shade, will tolerate wet soils and saline soils so good for coastal and creek planting.
CARE: Low maintenance and tolerant of harsh conditions, requires little care once established. Fertilise with a native slow release fertiliser once a year.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: Up to 1.2m x 0.5m.
