Soft-leaved yucca, rich green leaves deepening to burgundy as they mature. Low maintenance for tubs and poolside, very striking as accent plants or mass planting. It's Mexican in origin, so very heat tolerant, and reportedly will survive winters as cold as -9C. Always popular when we have it in stock.

Yucca desmetiana

APPEARANCE : Low maintenance ornamental plant with a rosette of broad leaves, green maturing to lilac and burgundy. Handle with care as there are small thorns along the outer edges of the foliage. Sometimes recorded as Yucca de Smetiana.
USE IN : Accent and specimen planting, landscaping and poolside, containers.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun to part shade in the garden in well drained soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Hardy plant, tolerates heat, overnight frost, reportedly temperatures to -9C, and dry conditions once established. Prefers dry conditions during winter.
CARE : Remove old foliage for a tidy appearance and fertilise yearly using a slow release fertiliser.
