This here's the wattle, the emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle, you can hold it in your hand.

Golden wattle is  the national flower of our country since 1988, it's appeared on stamps, and it's a common sight across the southern states when it blazes in gold from winter to late spring.

Favourite of honeyeaters and thornbills, for those fluffy golden flowers are rich in nectar and pollen during cold months; and the leaves help feed the larvae of native butterflies.

Not so favourite in some bushland areas as this is an enthusiastic self-seeder from its long pods. It will grow in very poor soil, help with soil erosion, and be an effective fast-growing windbreak. Plant wisely - and it's a good garden friend.
