Acacia rubida
This pioneering little red-stem wattle is a toughie that can rough it anywhere - cold, sun, poor impoverished soils, roadside verges, areas of seasonal flooding, up in the ranges and along creek banks...
The only thing it doesn't seem to like, in the wild at least, is QLD humidity; but as we always say, the plants can't read the gardening books so give it a try!
Red-stem wattle is a shrubby wattle, wide and branching, which might make a good informal hedge if tidied up with a prune. It has feathery mimosa foliage alongside long smooth leaves, for a soft gentle look that belies its hardiness.

Acacia rubida - red-stem wattle
APPEARANCE : Fast-growing native wattle, forms a large shrub or small tree. Feathery foliage alongside long smooth single leaves, all blue-green; and from winter into spring abundant pale to bright yellow flowers.USE FOR : Informal hedging, fast colour, feature shrub in native gardens. Revegetation, poor and rocky soils, seasonally flooded areas
CLIMATE : Frost and drought tolerant. Reliable in dry gardens and areas of low rainfall (once established). Doesn't seem to like high humidity.
PLANTING : Plant in any well-drained soil in full sun. Self-seeds, so do not plant near any natural bushlands or waterways, especially in areas with reliable rainfall.
CARE : Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks, and protect from frost while young. Responds well to pruning after flowering if you need to tidy it or clip to a hedge. Apply a slow release native fertiliser afterwards to promote healthy growth.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 2-3m usually, up to 10m H x 4-5 m W. Variable depending on location
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
