Sun-loving daisy from Southern Africa which like its fellow gazanias and osteospermums laps up sunshine. Arctotis grow naturally in the dry stony places of southern Africa which makes them ideal garden plants for Australian conditions. It needs frost free conditions if you want to keep it from one year to the next, but otherwise will give you very little bother once established.

Arctotis' Harlequin mix' - African daisy

DESCRIPTION: Cheery sun-loving daisy in a varied mix of warm colours, perennial in frost free gardens or grown as a seasonal annual. Blooms open in sunshine like gazanias. Harlequin often has a dark central eye to each flower.
PLANTING: Spring to early Summer. Sow seeds into seed raising mix, cover with a thin layer of soil and keep moist. At approx 6 weeks, plant in free draining soil in a full sun location. Take care to ensure the crown is above the level of the soil. Avoid planting in clay-boggy soil or very humid locations.
CARE: Water seedlings regularly until established and continue to provide water during dry spells (morning is best allowing the leaves to dry through the day, avoiding any fungal issues). Remove spent flowers and apply liquid fertiliser regularly for prolific flowering and plant health.
