Artichoke Violet de Provence - seed
A French twist on this delicious gourmet vegetable. full of flavour and full of colour too. The plants themselves are worth growing for the tall stems of purple flowers - one for the chef and the florist!
Cynara scolymus - artichoke 'Violet de Provencee'
DESCRIPTION: Favourite in French cuisine, gourmet chef's vegetable with large dense purple heads (flowerbuds). Cook and eat the sweet leaf bases dipped in butter or sauce; or leave to flower and enjoy big purple blooms. Will crop for 4-5 years after planting
PLANTING: Sow direct or in pots indoors in Spring fr most regions; sow Autumn-Winter in the tropics. Lightly cover seed to 5mm. Plant out when frosts are gone and temperatures are above 15C.
CARE: Keep moist through germination and while growing. Water and feed regularly through the growing period.
