Supercute knee-high banksia perfect for wildlife and native gardens that don't have space for a full-grown shrub/tree. Or better yet, double your banksia fun with groundcover and container planting! Flowering in autumn-winter when gardens need colour, it's a cracker of a native.

We love Birthday Candles for its low height, wide spread, winter flowers

Banksia spinulosa 'Birthday Candles'

APPEARANCE : Australian native dwarf shrub with a dense compact habit, growing under half a metre in flower and spreading slowly widthways. Cylindrical golden-yellow flowers, around 8cm long, appear in autumn and winter, proud of the foliage. Lower growing than Coastal Cushion
USE FOR : Coastal gardens, wildlife gardens, rockeries, mass groundcover plantings, and in pots and containers.
PLANTING : Plant in a light very-well-drained soil in a sunny position for best flowering. Suits acid to mildly alkaline soils and is able to tolerate frost and salt spray. Low water needs once established - doesn't like wet feet or humidity.
CARE : Prune as required after flowering to maintain dense growth. Feed with a slow release native fertiliser during spring - Banksia are phosphorus-sensitive so the P ratio of the fertiliser needs to be under 3%. Leaves may yellow in very alkaline soils, but plants are happy grown in pots if this is the case in your garden.
HEIGHT & WIDTH :  40 - 50 cm H x 0.5 - 1 m W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide. You can see an example in the image gallery
