Rubus hybrid - thornless blackberry
APPEARANCE : Long canes with large rough leaves and pale pink-white spring flowers that produce black berries (drupes) in summer-autumn. Unlike most other varieties, these are largely thornless, making harvesting easier. These plants are self fertile, though planting more than one often results in better yield. Blackberries start to fruit from a young age.USE FOR :Grow your own fruit for eating fresh as snacks and on pavlova and cereals, or making into jams, pies, purees, crumbles... CLIMATE : Frost hardy to -15C
PLANTING : The canes are semi-upright; plant them against a trellis or taut wires, train them up until they reach the top, then tie in new growth pointing down until you reach the bottom of the trellis. This helps increase fruit yields. Plant in full sun into any rich, well-drained soil. Space around 1.5m apart and plant quite shallow, around 10 cm deep.
CARE : Mulch and water regularly until plant becomes established and keep watered at the roots when in flower and fruit. Prune the growing tips in summer to encourage branching, and cut out old canes in winter. They fruit on last year’s stems so bear this in mind when pruning.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : Average of 1.5 m H x 1 - 2 m W.
Contains 1 crown.
