Boronia megastigma – brown boronia
The wild species form of brown boronia, loved by native plant connoisseurs for its delicious perfume.
It comes from the far south west corner of WA, where it finds the very precise conditions it needs to flourish - not too sunny and not too shady; not too hot and not too cold; not too wet and not too dry; not too humid and not too breezy.
Even then, it's not a very long-lived plant - though it's fast to grow and to flower, so you can enjoy it from the get-go. If you can cater to its needs, you'll get a generously-flowering, citrussy-scented, native super-favourite in your garden.

Boronia megastigma - brown boronia
APPEARANCE : Compact native flowering shrub with fine feathery fragrant slender leaves, small cup-shaped highly fragrant flowers in winter-spring. The flowers are yellow on the inside, maroon-chocolate on the outside, for a striking contrast.ORIGIN : Found in the wild in southern WA in the Margaret River region, where it grows in winter swamps and woodlands
USE FOR: Native and cottage gardens, dappled shade, container growing. Wonderful cut flowers. The plant is grown commercially for essential oils
CLIMATE : Should come through a light overnight frost. Does not like humidity and needs cool winter weather to initiate flowerbuds - one for the southern states
PLANTING: Plant in a sheltered spot in dappled shade or filtered sun. Free-draining moist acid soil with plenty of organic matter will give best results. Generous mulching helps maintain a cool soil bed.
CARE: Water regularly while the plant is establishing, and in winter during prolonged dry spells. Light prune once flowering has finished will help encourage new growth and prolong the plant's lifespan. Follow with an application of a slow release fertiliser for natives, and fresh mulch.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 1m H x to 0.5m-1m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
