Big bold dramatic bromeliad, a large-sized waist-high rosette of gunmetal grey, flushed and shaded with wine-purple, which produces a deep maroon flowering spike well over head-height on mature plants.. Very impressive when full-grown, and a striking indoor plant when small (or when big, if you have the space...)

Alcantarea imperialis 'Silver Plum' - bromeliad

APPEARANCE : Big-sized bromeliad with a large rosette of dark silver-grey leaves flushed deep purple-red underneath and in the centre of the rosette. Please note your tubestock may arrive green and will develop the distinctive colours as it grows.
USES: Suited to large pots, indoors and out, and tropical or subtropical gardens.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in pots or out in the garden, taking care to keep the crown above the soil. Enjoys sunny to shaded positions, colour is stronger in good light. Protect from frost. Site carefully as this is a big bromeliad when full-grown.
CARE: Bromeliads love warm and humid conditions. Water by filling the centre of the plant with rainwater or filtered water. After flowering bromeliads generally begin to die back. By this time plants will have developed pups which will take the place of the original plant. Fertilise during spring with an organic liquid feed mixed at half rate.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 1m H x 1m W.
YOUR PLANTS: These plants are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide. May be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on. You can see an example in the image gallery
