Jazzy easycare plant for indoors or shady tropical gardens. Eyecatching striped leaves in a glossy rosette then, on mature plants, a tall sword-shaped bright red flowerspike. This lasts around 8 weeks, after which the rosette dies, replaced by other smaller ones around it. Excellent houseplants as they're remarkably unfussy and low maintenance.

Vriesea hybrids - Vriesea splendide - flaming sword
DESCRIPTION: Easy care plant with attractive dappled foliage even when young, which develops and darkens as the plant grows, and brilliant red flower spikes.USES: Perfect for underplanting in shaded locations. Very good indoor plants.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in pots or out in the garden, taking care to keep the crown above the soil. Protect plants from harsh midday sun; under trees is ideal.
CARE: Bromeliads love warm humid conditions. Water by simply filling the centre of the plant. After flowering bromeliads generally begin to die back. By this time plants will have developed pups which will take the place of the original plant. Fertilise during spring with an organic liquid feed mixed at half rate.

YOUR PLANTS: Supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on.
