Like a match on fire, each rosette of broad glossy leaves produces, on mature plants, a tall sword-shaped maroon flower-spike tipped with gold. After a couple of months it dies, and smaller curly-leaved rosettes develop around it. Excellent houseplants as they're remarkably unfussy and low maintenance. Admit it, you've got Madonna as an earworm now, doncha?
DESCRIPTION: Easy care plant with a strappy rosette of broad dark foliage which develops a central flower spike, maroon with gold at the tips. Distinctive curly leaves. USES: Perfect for underplanting in shaded locations. Very good indoor plants. PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in pots or out in the garden, taking care to keep the crown above the soil. Protect plants from harsh midday sun; under trees is ideal. CARE: Bromeliads love warm humid conditions. Water by simply filling the centre of the plant. After flowering bromeliads generally begin to die back. By this time plants will have developed pups which will take the place of the original plant. Fertilise during spring with an organic liquid feed mixed at half rate. HEIGHT & WIDTH: 45cm H x 60cm W. YOUR PLANTS: May be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on.
