Multiple flowers per stem, full on red-and-yellow colour - this orchid is a knockout! Have you ever seen anything so jazzy? You may be familiar with Cattleya orchids if you watch old movies where American teens go to the prom. This was always the flower of choice for beaus to present to their belles, who would then wear it to the dance; hence their common name of corsage orchid.
Rhyncattleanthe Burana BeautyAPPEARANCE : These orchids are extremely showy, often fragrant, and highly coloured. Native to the Andes mountains, they grow as epiphytes in the trees. Rhyncattleanthe used to be called Potinara before reclassification by taxonomists, and is sometimes found listed as such. 'Haw Yuan Beauty' is a hybrid of Rhyncattleanthe Netrasiri Starbright x Cattleya Netrasiri Beauty, to create a compact orchid with bunches of up to five large flowers per stem. Each flower looks like a frilly tropical bright yellow daffodil, with three of the six outer petals shaded in vibrant red-pink. The centre petals can be yellow or red-pink.
USE FOR : Tropical gardens and indoors
PLANTING: They like bright light, warm days, and cool nights (12C minimum) to remind them of home. They are ideal for growing indoors as they need light but not direct sun. If temperatures are over 30C they need more shade and humidity, and good airflow.
CARE: They need free-draining soil, and a little drying out between waterings; feed them with dilute orchid fertiliser once a fortnight when they are growing. Water with room temperature water, rainwater ideally; if in doubt water less often, rather than more.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 20-50cm H
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide. You can see an example in the image gallery
