Citrus japonica - kumquat

APPEARANCE : This medium-sized shrub has glossy leaves tight in habit and evergreen foliage. Scented white flowers in spring and summer are followed by small rounded orange fruit with a tart tangy taste. Plants will flower and fruit from a young age - even at tubestock size. These are the fortunella kind with fruits like a miniature mandarin.
USE FOR : Excellent hedging plant; feature shrub, happy in large containers. Site where the scented flowers can be enjoyed.
CLIMATE : Fairly cold tolerant, though protect from frost. Supposedly more cold tolerant than oranges, mandarins, limes, though they fruit better in warmer regions - test this out in your own garden.
PLANTING : Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in well drained soil. A sunny position will result in a heavier, more prolonged flowering season.
CARE : Prune after flowering to promote a dense growth habit and more prolific flowering during the following season.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH:  2-3 m x 3 m. Keep at desired height with regular pruning.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
