Our boss James has two plants that he looks after and treasures in his office - Blue Moon peace lily, and this one. It's also the favourite cordyline of the Tropical Garden Society of Sydney. And when you see a full-grown specimen you'll understand why.

Willy's leaves are much broader and rounder than most cordylines, a wide canvas to paint on those exuberant, joyful brushstrokes of pink, rose, gold, lime, emerald and lemon.

Mature plants may also give you an extra surprise of vibrant pink flowers - Willy is generous like that!

Cordyline fruticosa 'Willy's Gold'

APPEARANCE : Tropical foliage plant with a slender trunk, and very broad rounded leaves, striped in tones of gold, pink, orange, red, lime green. Also known as Wiley's Gold, Willie's Gold, Wilie's Gold, Willi's Gold.
USE FOR : Tropical gardens for foliage colour; alongside palms and gingers. Ideally suited to indoor and container planting
CLIMATE : Protect from frost.
PLANTING : Plant in shade or part shade in the garden in free draining soil. Mulch when planting and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Cordylines are hardy and will tolerate periods of sun although they prefer filtered light. Give them plenty of water in the first 8-12 weeks and avoid exposing them to hot sunlight until they establish.
CARE : Remove any dead foliage and cut back in spring if plants become leggy. Water regularly during dry periods. Apply liquid fertiliser following extended dry periods and every 3 months for lush foliage. Cutting foliage off is fine as the plant will regrow from the stem.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH : 1.5m H x 1m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
