This Indian curcuma is a hot trend amongst herbalists, ayurvedic followers, and fans of natural medicine for the purported antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiinflammatory properties of its inky-blue roots.

We make no claims for its medicinal powers;  for gardeners it's a pretty tropical plant with pink-and-yellow tulip flowers typical of the species, and bold maroon stripes along the centre of each leaf.

APPEARANCE: Lush tropical herbaceous perennial with glossy evergreen foliage striped with dark purple along the centre. Pink flower bracts and yellow true flowers within. Distinctive dark tubers with dark blue centres when cut.
USE FOR : Perfect for tropical gardens and containers in shaded areas. Attractive garden plant grown for its edible roots used in cooking and medicine.
PLANTING : Plant in free draining soil in a part-full shade location. Protect from frost.
CARE: Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Water regularly during dry summer periods. Prune stems to the ground if plants become untidy, new shoots will replace those removed. Fertilise regularly using an organic liquid fertiliser for lush new growth. Plants need water during the summer growing months and a drier dormant period in winter. Growing in pots can achieve this, as pots can be moved inside or under cover if necessary

< YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
