Dahlia Sunset - 1 bulb
Dahlia 'Sunset'
DESCRIPTION: Summer-Autumn flowering herbaceous plant with round full double flowers on long stems.
PLANTING: Plant in a sunny or semi-shaded position for best flowers. For VIC, ACT and NSW plant in late October-early November once frosts are over; in QLD plant from September on, again once frosts are over, for summer blooms, or in December on for Autumn flowers.
USE IN: Ideal for cottage gardens, mixed borders and cutting gardens as they are highly prized cut flowers.
CARE: Add a slow release fertiliser or organic compost to the planting hole. Once planted, water the soil to set the tuber in place. An occasional light watering is all that's needed until the first flowers appear. Water and feed weekly or if the soil becomes dry, give a good deep water. Just before first frosts, lift the tubers and store them somewhere dry and frost free until spring. Either plant each tuber individually in a pot of compost, ready for replanting, or store tubers flat in a box wrapped in newspaper or covered with sawdust or compost.
CLIMATE: Cool to tropical.
Will get through a light frost if soil is well-draining, the tuber is planted 10cm or more deep, and the soil has a deep mulch layer.
