Lush tropical plant, very striking in full bloom with stunning vibrant cobalt-blue flower clusters quite unlike almost any other plant. Grown in Australia since 1857; and a gorgeous addition to any frost-free garden.

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora - blue ginger

APPEARANCE: Tropical plant from central and south America with broad glossy green leaves, clusters of bright purple-blue flower spikes during autumn.
USE FOR: Dramatic flowering borders. Suited to large containers.
CLIMATE : Protect from frost, keep above 5C.
PLANTING : Plant in well drained moist loamy soil in a partly shaded, sheltered position in the garden. Will grow in full sun but this may scorch leaves.
CARE: Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Water regularly during dry periods. Cut back stems after flowering, fertilise with an organic fertiliser during spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 1.5 - 2 m H x 1 m W.
