The red-flowered mallee is a handsome drought-resistant west coast native tree, with white fresh bark, red fluffy flowers, and a wide spreading outline.

Hot Threads is a selection of this species chosen for its compact garden-friendly size and strong colour.

Eucalyptus erythronema 'Hot Threads' - red flowered mallee

APPEARANCE :Small native west coast flowering gum with a waxy white bark which matures to pink-red; it may have a single trunk or, in mallee fashion, a small clump of trunks. Leaves are smallish and olive grey-green. Large deep red tufty flowers appear between July to February depending on location; "erythro-nema" means red-thread.
ORIGIN : WA Wheatbelt country
USE FOR : Ornamental garden tree, feature shrub when coppiced, wildlife gardens, for flower arranging and floristry.
CLIMATE : It prefers low humidity but give it a go to test its adaptability. Drought resistant.
PLANTING :  Plant in free-draining neutral soil in full sun. Grows in sandy-clay-gravelly soils in the wild which gives you some scope for its adaptability
CARE : Stake and protect from strong wind and frost until the plant is established. Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks and regularly during extended dry periods.
HEIGHT :  5 - 7m H x 3 - 5m W
