This tall native gum is found right around the south-east of Australia in a range of climates and soils, growing alongside other gums, acacias, and kurrajong.

The fluffy white flowers appear in abundance, and throughout the year; and the bark is rippled brown on the trunk, smooth and white on upper branches.

One of these trees survived the Hiroshima nuclear blast, so if you were worried about its resilience, that should put your mind at rest...

Description

Eucalyptus melliodora - yellow box, honey box

APPEARANCE :A tall native gumtree, slender, with an elongated crown. Large fluffy white blossoms appear most of the year. 'Melliodora' means honey-scented. Leaves are egg-shaped, blue-green in colour. The bark on upper branches is smooth and creamy-white.
ORIGIN : Most of south-east Australia from the VIC-SA border to SE QLD.
USE FOR : Ornamental garden tree, wildlife shelter, honey production, revegetation.
CLIMATE : Should be humidity, drought and frost tolerant as it grows in a range of climates in the wild including ACT.
PLANTING : Grows in most free-draining soil types. A yellow box survived the Hiroshima nuclear blast, so they are pretty rugged.
CARE : Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks and regularly during extended dry periods. Honey box can be prone to branch drop so site away from buildings and prune to manage this.
HEIGHT : 10-30m H x 10-20m W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
