It's a wayward wide shrub in the wild, but with a little judicious pruning it becomes a handsome feature plant for gardens - and you'll want to prune it as the seedpods are much prized for floristry and floral art.

Bright green-grey leaves, angular white-grey seedpods, fast-growing and drought resistant - it's got to be worth a spot in your back yard!

Eucalyptus pleurocarpa, Eucalyptus tetragona - tallerack, tetragona

APPEARANCE :A West Coast native shrubby bush gumtree with distinctive green-white waxy stiff oval leaves. Broad outline, with thin stems, somewhat wayward when unpruned. White fluffy flowers in autumn or spring are followed by striking geometric white-grey seedpods
ORIGIN : Found in the wild in the Goldfields and Wheatbelt of WA, in gravelly sandy soils, alongside other eucalypt species.
USE FOR :  Ornamental garden tree, feature shrub when coppiced (cut hard back), wildlife gardens, for flower arranging and floristry.
CLIMATE : As a WA species it prefers mild Mediterranean-climate areas of Australia with abundant sunshine, lower humidity, drier summers. Protect from strong wind and frost. Drought tolerant.
PLANTING :  Grows in most free-draining soil types. Prefers light sandy or gravelly soils.
CARE : Apply mulch and continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks and regularly during extended dry periods. Prune for cut foliage, and to shape the plant.
HEIGHT :  2 - 5m H x 3 - 6m W
