Flindersia australis - crows ash, teak pod
APPEARANCE : Hardy Australian native tree ideal for creating shade in large gardens. Flowers are cream coloured & bird-attracting, appearing spring to late summer followed by large attractive star shaped seed pods. This QLD native grows happily in botanic gardens in Sydney, Albury-Wangaratta-Benalla, and Adelaide, so test its frost-resilience for your self.USE FOR : Plant as a feature, shade tree or privacy screen. Popular street tree for its rounded growth habit and non invasive roots. Use seedpods for christmas decorations and dried flower arrangements.
PLANTING : Sunny/part shade position is ideal. Plant in a free draining soil rich in organic matter.
CARE : Mulch and water well until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Fertilise with slow release native fertiliser during spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 8-12m H x 5-7m W in gardens, up to 25-30 metres high in its natural habitat.
