This fantastically dramatic trailing vine with acer-like leaves and lilac flowers loves heat and humidity, loves sunshine, loves to grow! In drier climates it will stay more compact; either way it's gorgeous in baskets and containers, or threading through bigger plants as a contrasting groundcover.

APPEARANCE : Vigorous trailing herbaceous perennial vine with deeply lobed purple black leaves, purple beneath; and lilac-mauve trumpet flowers. Not the edible kind - ornamental only.USE FOR : Plant in hanging pots so the plant can cascade down. Contrast-colour groundcover between shrubs.
PLANTING: Plant in sun or part sun to maintain the deep leaf colour. Water regularly. Protect from frost.
CARE: In tropical and subtropical gardens it can be planted year-round; in cold climates treat it like a dahlia or other tender bulbs and lift the tubers each autumn to store over winter in a pot of vermiculite.
