Kunzea baxteri - scarlet kunzea, crimson kunzea

APPEARANCE: WA native, like a leggy open Callistemon, with very small neat leaves and red bottlebrush flowers mainly in spring . This genus has been classified under Leptospermum, Metrosideros, and now Kunzea. Maybe, like the Callistemon, this Kunzea will next be renamed a Melaleuca by taxonomists to simplify things? The differences are apparent only to the keenest eye.
USE IN:  Large bush for informal hedging and borders, native and wildlife gardens.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in very free-draining soil in the garden. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Prefers dry sandy soil and a dry coastal climate but may grow in subtropical gardens in richer free-draining soils. Should come through a light frost once established and mature.
CARE:  Water during prolonged dry spells. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring, and seaweed solution seasonally.
HEIGHT & WIDTH:  1-3m H x 1-3 m W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
