This west coast native is at home right along the southern states and as far north as Sydney. It thrives in a Mediterranean climate of dry hot summers and cool wet winters, pumping out bottlebrush flowers from early winter to late spring. Honeyeaters love the nectar.

Kunzea puchella - granite kunzea
APPEARANCE : Native shrub of very variable size, depending on location. Slender leaves, red bottlebrush flowers in winter and springORIGIN : Found in the WA goldfields and wheatbelt, growing in cracks in rock.
USE FOR : Wildlife gardens for nectar eating birds and mammals; native gardens, mixed borders.
CLIMATE : Tolerant of light frost, drought tolerant. Prefers a low-humidity Mediterranean climate.
PLANTING : Grows in sandy-rocky-clay soils, very free draining, alkaline or neutral pH. Plant away from underground pipes or building foundations.
CARE : Needs little care once established; prune to shape after flowering to encourage the next year's flowers.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH : 0.5-3m H x 1-3m W.
