A great coastal plant, as the name suggests, and also drought and frost tolerant. It's a tough resilient low-maintenance perennial that shoots up domed flowerheads in shades of purple and white in warmer months; and gives you autumn leaf colour in cooler ones. Limonium perezii 'Blue Seas' - sea lavenderAPPEARANCE : Canary Islands native, hardy perennial with big oval leathery-fleshy leaves and domed clusters of white flowers tucked into dark purple bracts throughout most of the year. Leaves take on reddish autumnal tones in cooler months. Cut the flowerstems for dry and fresh arrangements; they hold their colour for a long period.
USE IN : Front line coastal and seaside gardens; waterwise and outback gardens. Also happy in mixed borders and cottage gardens.
PLANTING : Full sun, free-draining sandy soil, tolerates salt spray. Tolerant of mild frosts once established.
CARE : Mulch and water regularly for the first 12 weeks until the plant establishes. Deadhead old flower stems to encourage new buds. Divide the plant every three years or so to retain its vigour.
HEIGHT : 60cm H x 40cm W.
