Linum - native flax
This slender sky-blue beauty looks so delicate it could blow away in a light breeze - but it comes through frost and snow, thrives in sun or shade, and regrows after fire. The stems are strong enough to make ropes and nets too.
It's a great indicator of undisturbed grasslands, and if it likes you, you might find it self-seeds some free plant babies for you.

Linum marginale – native flax
APPEARANCE : Native perennial with long slender leaves and stems, topped with small lavender to bright blue five-petalled flowers in spring.
ORIGIN : Found across southern Australia in moist woodlands and undisturbed grassland.
USE FOR : Cottage gardens, native and wildlife gardens, pots and containers, as a precious shot of blue in the flowerbed. Stems can be processed for strong cord for weaving.
CLIMATE : Tolerates frost, snow, and drought once established. Reshoots after fire.
PLANTING : Plant in moist free-draining neutral to acid soil in a sunny spot. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures as the young plant establishes.
CARE : Does not like fertiliser or grazing - the more you leave it alone the happier it will be. Plants die back after flowering and reappear the following year.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 60 cm H x 20 cm W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
