Maniltoa - silk handkerchief tree - 75mm BIGGER size
This native small rainforest tree has spectacular cascading flower-like new leaf growth, and fruity-scented white true spring flowers which attract bees and butterflies. Pollinated flowers become round castanet-like seedpods, for three seasons of interest.
Fast growing to a good size, slower thereafter so ideal for establishing height and maturity in a new garden, while you wait for other plants to catch up. Stunning shade tree when full growin - there's one at James Cook campus in Townsville, if you're passing.

Maniltoa lenticellata, Cynometra lenticellata - silk handkerchief tree, cascading bean
APPEARANCE : Tropical native rainforest tree with dark green glossy leaves and large weeping tassel-like clusters of pale pink to white flower-like new leafy growth, which give the tree its common name. True flowers appear in spring and are white, fringed, fruit-scented, pollinated by mammals, and emerge out of the branches. Flowers are followed by large oval brown seedpods.ORIGIN : Native to Far North QLD, Torres Strait, New Guinea
USE FOR : A shade and feature tree in medium to large frost-free gardens.
CLIMATE : Frost-free, humid
PLANTING : Plant in a full sun/part shade position in the garden. Loves humidity and plenty of water or rain.
CARE: Allow plenty of space for its mature size unless you aim to hard prune it regularly.
MATURE HEIGHT AND WIDTH: 10-12m H in gardens x 6m W.
