Olea europaea - Spanish olive 'Manzanillo'
APPEARANCE : Mediterranean tree with spreading bushy crown, oval grey-green leaves which emerge apple green, medium-large green oval fruits that ripen to purple-black. Slow growing.USE FOR : Shade tree, fruit tree, foliage plant. Suitable for large pots.
CLIMATE : Hardy shrub suited to most conditions nationwide, and coastal plantings. Needs two months of cold 0-10C to initiate fruits. Will tolerate light frost when mature. Prefers dry winters and wet summers so ideal for southern states.
PLANTING : A full sun to partly shaded position in the garden. Plant in a free draining soil rich in organic matter. Perfect for sandy areas and poor soil.
CARE : Easy if the climate is right for it. Mulch and water well during the first 12 weeks until the plant is established, prune after flowering to promote new growth. For container-grown olives, repot if necessary during the growing season.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH : 5 m H x 5 m W.
