Unique groundcover plant with nearly jet-black strappy leaves. Unmistakable, it makes a striking garden element for edging and borders, dramatic mass plantings, and a contrast with coloured-foliage and flowering plants. Bonus! Lilac flower spikes in summer.

Ophiopogon nigrescens - black mondo

DESCRIPTION: Bold groundcover with grass-like foliage and lilac flower spikes appearing during the warmer months of the year.
USE IN: Perfect for borders, edging pathways and rockeries. Also ideal used in underplanting within the garden or in potted plants. Not as drought tolerant or vigorous as the green form.
LOCATION: Full sun to partly shaded position in the garden. Suited to container planting.
CARE: Prefers moist well-drained soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Tolerates dry conditions, thrives with regular water.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 30 cm H x 30 cm W.
