If you're a rugby league fan you might not get behind a warrior, but this Kiwi is definitely worth cheering for. Bronze Warrior shines in all seasons, always brings their A Game to the garden, and plays well with other plants of all nations.

They're a true warrior in the borders - tough, resilient, frost tolerant, drought tolerant, standing up to coastal breezes - and classy too. A couple of these big beauties in a fancy container will give  your garden premier style.

They're an unusual colour, so we've included some images of more conventional green ones so you can see what shape and size the plants will be when mature.

Phormium tenax ‘Bronze Warrior’ - NZ flax

APPEARANCE : Bold upright strappy plant with long firm sword-shaped leaves and tall stems of tubular flowers on mature plants in warmer months. Bronze Warrior has richly coloured foliage, bronze and purple-brown, throughout the year.
ORIGIN : The parent species is native to New Zealand, where the long strong fibres have long been used for making fabrics
USE FOR : Feature planting, big containers, urban gardens, bird-attracting, year round colour. Will grow in coastal and exposed sites but the leaves may be shredded by the wind.
CLIMATE : Frost and drought tolerant once established
PLANTING : Grows in most free-draining garden soils; may struggle in clay in cooler and wetter climates. Plant in full sun for strongest foliage colour. Plant with the mature size in mind - give it room to shine. Water plants until established, and regularly if growing in containers.
CARE : Phormiums need little care once established. Fertilise annually in spring with controlled release fertiliser, as new growth starts. In autumn remove any dead flowerspikes or leaves to tidy up the plant. In frosty southern or inland regions an extra layer of bark mulch can help get the plant through winter.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH :   1.5m H x 1.5m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
