Alpine mint bush is found in the wild in the high ranges of NSW and VIC (and before it went extinct there, TAS), where it snuggles up with snow gums in the light sandy-stony soil.

Freckled flowers, white inside and lilac outside, cover the bush in summer-autumn. Crush the tiny aromatic leaves and you'll see why this plant gets its common name.
