Psidium - strawberry guava
Sweet and tasty, not available commercially, the fruits of strawberry guava makes delicious jams, jellies and juices, and the leaves can be made into tisanes.
This Brazilian tree likes warm tropical growing conditions, where it will self-seed; so be aware of this when planting in rural areas, and cover the tree when in fruit to prevent birds and mammals feeding.

Psidium cattleyanum, P cattleianum - strawberry guava, cherry guava
APPEARANCE : Small evergreen shrubby tree from Brazil, in the Myrtaceae family - related to lilly pilly, which you can see in the white fluffy summer flowers, followed by small dark red autumn fruits, looking more like cherries or miniature pomegranates than strawberries. Wide branching stems, cinnamon coloured new bark, thick smooth oval deep green leaves, very ornamental.
USE FOR : Grow-your-own and orchard gardens.
CLIMATE : Subtropical to tropical, humid and frost-free
PLANTING : Plant in shade or sun, in fertile moist soil, acid or alkaline. It can restrict the growth of neighbouring plants and sprout from the roots, forming thickets, so growing in a large pot is a good option. This also has the advantage of reducing the size of the tree which makes harvesting easier.
CARE : The plants can have weed potential in optimal climates, so if you live in a rural area or near bushland cover trees in fruit to prevent birds and mammals spreading the fruits.
MATURE HEIGHT & WIDTH: 2-4m H x 2-4m W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
