Cold-climate herbaceous plant producing sweet-tart delicious fruit for pies cake and crumbles. Mmmmm, crumble...

If you leave this plant to flower you'll get an amazing tall triffid-like spike of white fluff - but it won't do your fruiting stems any good. So you have a choice: pies, or flowers?

Rheum rhabarbarum 'Ever Red' - rhubarb

APPEARANCE : Big ruched deep green leaves with red-green stems, edible when cooked. Ever Red is a very sweet variety, ideal for eating. The product supplied is called a 'crown' - the growing roots of the plant - not a bulb.
USE IN: Pies, tarts, flans, cakes, crumbles. Do not eat the leaves which are toxic, or feed them to pets.
CLIMATE: Cold, especially in winter, and low humidity. In subtropical areas that have no real winter, garden guru Peter Cundall suggests digging up crowns in winter, wrapping them in a plastic bag, and stashing them in the freezer for a month or so.
PLANTING: Rich deep soil with lots of organic matter. Plant so the top of the crown is just below the surface.
CARE: Water and feed weekly and generously. Harvest stems as needed, starting with the fattest, taking no more than half of all the stems per plant over a season. Pull them out, snapping them at the base.

Contains 1 crown.
