Potato King Edward - seed potatoes
Potato King Edward
DESCRIPTION: White-skinned floury variety with tasty white flesh, excellent for roasting and mashing. Skins have a distinctive pink blush in parts.
PLANTING: Potatoes grow in almost any soil, and they are great for breaking up hard compacted beds; but they really love sandy with a high humus content. They require nitrogen so add manure and garden compost to the soil before planting.
CARE: Water regularly to help it establish and keep it growing strong. Keep the bed weed-free and pick off any snails or beetles. New shoots will appear in 2-3 weeks; when this happens mound up the soil around the shoots to keep the tubers out of the light and encourage new tubers to form. Lift potatoes when mature plants begin to die. Leave freshly harvested potatoes in the sun for a day to prevent bruising, then store in dark and cool conditions
