Matthiola incana Ten Week - scented stock

DESCRIPTION : Bushy, upright growing bedding plant to 30cm high; suited to mass planting, cottage gardens, or as potted colour. Leaves are oval, pale and soft, like spinach or corn salad. Flowers are mixed pastel shades and sweetly scented. Most flowers are double-petalled, some may be single - darker leaves tend to produce single flowers.
SOWING : Sow summer-autumn avoiding extreme cold and heat. Sow seeds into seed raising mix trays or direct into their final position, scattered or in formal rows. Cover with a light layer of soil and keep moist. Germinates in 10-14 days
PLANTING : Thin seedlings if they become crowded; replant elsewhere in the garden. Plant in free draining soil in a full sun location for best flowering. Preparing garden beds with well composted manure will give the best results.
CARE : Water seedlings regularly until established and continue to provide water especially during dry spells. Mulch plants to keep the roots cool in summer. For an extra long flowering season, remove spent blooms often and feed with liquid fertiliser. Cut the flowers and enjoy indoors.
