Every butterfly house has one of these plants - it's caviar and oysters to a flutterby. Plant it somewhere sunny and sheltered and you'll be rewarded with dazzling orange daisies until the frosts come.

Tithonia rotundifolia - Mexican sunflower, torch flower

DESCRIPTION: Tall branching annual with big deep orange daisy flowers in late summer
PLANTING: Sow seeds in Spring onwards at 24C. Plant in rich free draining soil in full sun out of strong winds.
CARE:  Water seedlings regularly until established and during extended dry periods. Apply liquid fertiliser regularly for best results. Remove spent flowers to prolong the flowering season.
