It's drought tolerant, pretty resistant to munching from wildlife, you can walk on it and it will bounce back again, it's really cold hardy, grows in deep shade, and it's very unfussy what soil you plant it in. It's also vigorous and roots along its stems so bear that in mind when you site it.
Vinca minor Dart's Blue - periwinkle

APPEARANCE : Lowgrowing vigorous groundcover, dark green oval leaves and bright blue-purple five-petalled open flowers. Roots along its stems to form wide mats. An improved form of the classic Bowles/La Grave vinca with more disease resistance.
USE FOR: Covering large areas of ground under shrubs, down embankments and slopes, in deep shade.
PLANTING : Tolerates most positions and conditions except very dry soil; benefits from mulching and fertilising at the time of planting to help it etablish.  Very cold hardy. Flowers best in sun but will flower in shade.
CARE : Mulch and keep watered until established. Chop it back to keep it in check if it starts to grow too wide.
