This native grass seems happy to grow almost anywhere - at altitude and at the coast, in the cool wet south and the hot dry north (though not tropical FNQ), in sandy or loamy or stony soils.

The fluffy white seedheads emerge after rainfall, usually in spring-summer, giving the plant its alternate name of white-top.

Austrodanthonia caespitosa, Rytidosperma caespitosum - wallaby grass

APPEARANCE : Dense native grass with very fine long leaves, fluffy cream flowerheads. Suited to all soil types, fast-growing. Caespitosa means 'grows in clumps or tufts'.
ORIGIN : This grass is found naturally all over western and southern Australia.
USE FOR : Revegetation, mass planting, erosion control, bushland gardens.
PLANTING : Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position, will tolerate a wide range of soils and climates.
CARE: Low maintenance and tolerant of harsh conditions, requires little care once established. Fertilise with a native slow release fertiliser once a year.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: Up to 90cm x 60cm.
