Adorably cute and pat-able, like a tiny vegetable pet, this succulent sedum is a no-fuss houseplant, stylish urban container plant, neat dry-terrarium plant, and evergreen groundcover for rockeries and waterwise gardens.
It won't get taller than your ankles, and its spread is neat and contained just like its foliage. Happy plants have yellow starry summer flowers as an extra treat.
Sedum makinoi - stonecrop
APPEARANCE : Low-growing carpeting succulent, deep green leaves, paler when new; leaves form rosettes along the stems. Yellow starry flowers in summer-autumn that attract beneficial pollinators, appear on mature plants.USE FOR : Rockeries, roof gardens, waterwise beds, coastal gardens. Squeezes into small spaces, spreads to provide groundcover in tough locations. Roots along the stems so if you want more of it, encourage it to lay on the soil; and if you don't, pull it up or mulch underneath with stone chips.
PLANTING : Plant in free-draining gritty soil in bright sunlight. Will grow in shade but leaf colour may not be as strong. Very happy in rocky sandy soils and exposed locations. Totally if the plant softens, droops, or wrinkles, especially in extended periods of heat.
HEIGHT & WIDTH : 10 cm H x 60 cm W
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
