Deciduous Trees

Deciduous trees shed their leaves, usually once a year, and usually in autumn. Some trees shed their leaves at other times of year, briefly, to make room for new growth. Some may shed their leaves only in cooler or drier climates, remaining evergreen elsewhere.
Deciduous trees are ideal to plant to let winter sunlight in, and provide cooling summer shade. They also allow for underplanting of bulbs and flowering groundcovers which benefit from the increased light levels when the tree is leafless.
