Most ferns, as they grow, broaden out into wide spreading rosettes of leaves. Green Flame is different - it stays upright, which means it's the perfect fern for growing indoors as you can enjoy all that lush shiny greenery without having to move the furniture to make room! Even better, as the ferns grow, the smooth flat leaf tips divide and curl and split and frill until the plant looks like a giant exotic tropical lettuce.

Microsorum punctatum 'Green Flame'

APPEARANCE : Medium-sized, upright growing fern with glossy vibrant apple-green long leaves, each with a curled tip to their growth on mature plants, similar to Asplenium Leslie and Crissie.
USES: Underplanting in tropical shade gardens, in the forks of trees, wall crevices and rock cracks; as a houseplant.
PLANTING: Plant in free draining soil in a shaded sheltered frost-free location. Mulch after planting to retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures as the young plant establishes.
CARE: Keep moist during dry periods; reduce water in the winter. Ferns thrive in humid conditions and are happier to have wet leaves than wet roots. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn. Re-pot container plants if they are outgrowing their pots. Protect from frost, though it may tolerate a light frost once established.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 50 cm H x 50 cm W.
YOUR PLANTS: These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80 mm x 42 mm wide. May be supplied as 'plugs', slightly smaller than our usual tubestock but with a healthy root system ready for planting or potting on. You can see an example in the image gallery.
