Asplenium antiquum nidus var plicatum 'Lasagna' - bird's nest fern
DESCRIPTION: Medium-large fern with long fronds, each distinctly frilled and rippled on the edges like a sheet of fancy lasagna.USE IN: Tropical garden settings as a feature using layers in under planting. May also be set in the fork of a large tree to create a natural forest setting. Suited to containers and indoor gardens.
PLANTING: Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position in humus-rich soil ensuring the crown of the fern is above the soil line. The growing medium needs to be well drained to allow for plenty of air movement around the roots and avoid wet feet. Remove old fronds to keep plants looking fresh and avoid disease. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Likes it above 10C. Ferns thrive in humid conditions, provide frequent watering or misting during the warmer months and less during winter if growing indoors. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid based fertiliser every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn. Re-pot container plants only if they are outgrowing their pots.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 0.5m to 1.5m H x to 1.5m W
YOUR PLANTS: These plants are tube-stock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide
