Kennedia coccinea - coral creeper, coral vine

DESCRIPTION : Trailing drought-tolerant native perennial, with vibrant red-pink pea-like flowers spring to early summer. Climbs or trails to 2-3m. Plant as a weed-suppressing groundcover or add to hanging baskets for a cascading effect.
SOWING : Natives can require a little more care than the average flowering perennial, but are well worth the effort. Start by placing seeds in a cup of hot water overnight the day prior to planting. A sprinkle of Mr Fothergill's seed starter granules for wildflowers will help move things along. Sow all year round in pots in light sandy potting mix or soil; press seeds onto surface and cover pots with clear plastic wrap or glass until they germinate.
PLANTING : Once seedlings begin to emerge, place in a warm shady spot until large enough to transplant. For best flowering, plant out in a full sun location.
CARE: Water seedlings regularly until established and infrequently as the plants mature. Tolerates light frost once established. Mulch plants to retain moisture in the soil and fertilise using a native slow release fertiliser.
