Fast-growing vigorous evergreen groundcover, self-clinging wall climber, instant topiary plant trained over a framework. Superlative plant for wildlife. Best suited to cooler climates, but it's very robust, so test its heat-tolerance yourself.
Hedera helix - ivy APPEARANCE: Vigorous evergreen self-clinging climber with dark green leaves, suited to planting in shaded locations. Young leaves are tri-lobed; when plant climbs up a support and become tree-like the leaves turn more diamond-shaped and the plant will bear black berries in winter. USES: An ideal solution to unsightly fences and walls. Works well over archways, or as regularly-clipped topiary. Good groundcover - will self-root along its stems. Excellent plant for wildlife, for safety, nesting, food supply. PLANTING: Plant in shade or filtered sun with plenty of indirect light. Happy in almost any soil. Totally cold-hardy.
CARE: Mulch and water regularly until plant becomes established. Feed with a controlled release yearly during spring and follow up with liquid fertiliser monthly during Summer. Provide extra water during dry periods. Growth can be prolific, cut back as required.
