If you're a Euro expat, you'll know these festive Latin Americans as the classic Christmas indoor plant, favourite home decor for adding seasonal cosiness.

If you're true blue Aussie, you'll recognise these as the bright splashes of red and white lighting up a gloomy winter garden.

Grow them indoors as compact potted colour; grow them in your subtropical garden and they become large bold shrubs.

This Red Oak variety has large scallop-edged leaves in deep green and red, that give it a very festive holly-bush look, different to the usual smooth-leaved red poinsettias.
