Backhousia anisata, Syzygium anisatum, Anetholea anisata - aniseed myrtle

APPEARANCE: Small rainforest tree with long apple green leaves, rippled at the edges, maroon when young; and clusters of cream coloured flowers. Aniseed scented foliage when crushed.
Name note: While many taxonomists are busy separating plants from their genera after DNA testing, this Backhousia has recently been added to the larger genus of Syzygium. The NSW Herbarium considers it a separate genus altogether, Anetholea. We'll carry on using the name most gardeners know until this is resolved.
ORIGIN : Native to north coast NSW and south coast QLD in rainforest valleys
USE FOR: Ideal for streetscaping and feature planting in Australian Native garden settings. Attracts bird-life and pollinators to the garden.
CLIMATE : Protect from frost, especially when young
PLANTING: Plant in full sun to part shade in the garden. Plant in a free draining soil rich in organic matter and neutral or acid pH.
CARE: Mulch and water well upon planting. Continue to water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks, and in dry spells. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and promote dense growth.
HEIGHT & WIDTH:  5-8m H x 2 - 4 m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
