This new fern's sibling, the elegant Silver Lady fern, is a hugely popular underplanting for shady tropical gardens. This South American little'un may well follow in her footsteps!

With bright granny-smith-green colour, perky growth, and fun crinkled leaves, this little duckie is a lot of fun to look at.

While you're admiring your new fern purchase, may we suggest something cold to sip - like the Fluffy Duck cocktail, invented in Darlinghurst?

The original from 1971 takes : 1 shot of gin, 1 shot white rum, 1 shot vodka, 1 shot advocaat, 1 shot orange juice. Shake 'em up, pour over ice. or drink neat. Some recent versions swap the rum and vodka for a shot of triple sec... for more duck a l'orange.

Blechnum brasiliense 'Fluffy Duck'

APPEARANCE : Also known as Brazilian dwarf tree fern, this subtropical clumping understory fern is fast growing with elegant finely-dissected arching fronds. The fronds and individual leaflets have distinctive curled, twisting movement, giving a full look.
USE FOR : Tropical garden settings as a border or for creating depth using layers in under planting. Suited to containers and indoor gardens.
CLIMATE : Protect from frost - keep above 15C if possible. Ferns thrive in humid conditions.
PLANTING: Plant carefully ensuring the crown of the fern is above the soil line. Remove old fronds to keep plants looking fresh and avoid disease. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Keep moist during dry periods. Water every second day during dry periods. Apply a slow release fertiliser during spring and a liquid based fertiliser every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn. Re-pot every 2 - 3 years to keep soil fresh and full of nutrients. The best time to pot is in the cooler months when the plant is dormant.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: to 0.8m H x 0.8m W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
