Like Goldilocks herself, Boronia megastigma likes it not too sunny and not too shady; not too hot and not too cold; not too wet and not too dry; not too humid and not too breezy.

Dark Prince has bigger brighter flowers than the native species, vibrant yellow inside and deep plum-brown outside. It has more of them, and they are positioned higher up in the bush, not tucked away lower down, for even more of that winter-spring scented display.

If you can cater to its needs, you'll get a generously-flowering, citrussy-scented, native super-favourite in your garden.

The little Brown Boronia I bought from you is growing well and is covered in flower right now. My favourite scent , from the 70s when bunches of it were sold from the back of trucks once a year in Perth WA. The scent enveloped the city centre. I'm so happy to have found it again, and now my children and grandchildren can enjoy it too. I love your tube plants!

Boronia megastigma 'Dark Prince' - brown boronia

APPEARANCE : Compact native flowering shrub with fine feathery fragrant slender leaves, small cup-shaped highly fragrant flowers in winter-spring. The flowers are yellow on the inside, maroon-chocolate on the outside, for a striking contrast.
Dark Prince has larger flowers than the species form, brighter yellow inside, and are held higher on the plant for more visibility. This variety is also twice as large as Boronia Heaven Scent, with larger flowers held higher on the plant and along the whole stems, for better visibility and a showier display.
ORIGIN : The parent species is found in the wild in southern WA in the Margaret River region
USE FOR:  Native and cottage gardens, dappled shade, container growing. Wonderful cut flowers. The plant is grown commercially for essential oils
CLIMATE : Should come through a light overnight frost. Does not like humidity - one for the southern states
PLANTING: Plant in a sheltered spot in dappled shade or filtered sun. Free-draining moist slightly acid soil with plenty of organic matter will give best results. Generous mulching helps maintain a cool soil bed.
CARE:  Water regularly while the plant is establishing. Prune once flowering has finished will help encourage new growth and prolong the plant's lifespan. Follow with an application of a slow release fertiliser for natives, and fresh mulch.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 80cm H x to 50cm W.
YOUR PLANTS : These are tubestock plants, healthy young plants with new roots that will establish quickly in your garden. The pot size is 80mm high and 42 mm wide.
You can see an example in the image gallery.
